Don't fool yourself - crash dieting and "marathon" gym sessions simply don't work. Your body was never meant to be fat. And getting it back in shape is easier than you think... |
Lift Your Arms to Burn Fat
By Jon Benson
This is another tip I learned from Fit Over 40 role model Len Schwartz: the power of simply lifting your arms while doing cardio.
Let me tell you how this works, and how I use it to burn up to 40 percent more fat.
Lifting your arms, and by that I mean "pumping" your arms as you walk or do leg-oriented cardio work, forces the heart to pump harder to push blood into the raised extremities. The result is more energy being spent during your workout, and that of course means more calories burned.
There are two ways I use this trick. First, I suggest you do as I do and use Heavy Hands, which you can get at BigFitness.com. These are designed to "pump as you walk." Granted, it looks a bit strange to outsiders, but then again I never cared about that much. I'm interested in hard-core results.
Heavy Hands allowed Dr. Schwartz to drop his resting heart rate into the 30s. This, simply by lifting very light weights straight up and overhead while walking.
I have recently taken this to a new level with the use of ski walking poles. You can check those out at SkiWalking.com. I love my ski walking poles. They enable me to walk faster with less strain on the joints. And, more to the point of fat-burning, their arm-lifting motion forces the body to burn up to 40 percent more calories without spending an extra minute walking. Now, that's a bargain!
This is a technique you can use every single time you perform cardio, and you don't even need equipment (although it helps). Just lift your arms while on the glider, treadmill, or walking, alternating one arm then the next, and raise them straight up and over your head. It almost looks like a funky 1980s-style dance move, but this move incinerates body fat.
Give this simple heart-pumping, calorie-burning tip a shot and see if you don't work up a heck of a sweat.
